Productive summer fun was in full swing this July, with over 1,100 creative professionals attending Dribbble Meetups world-wide, with 13 events spanning 5 countries. As usual, we saw analog playoffs, intimate gatherings, lively discussions, and of course some incredible presentations by world-class speakers.
Join a Dribbble Meetup near you in August in places like Utrecht, Salt Lake City, Jakarta, Boston, Gurgaon, Austin, and more. Or maybe you’re ready to host your own Dribbble Meetup and help grow the community in your area. In that case, hooray!
Odessa, Ukraine @ Ul. Rishelyevskaya 33
“The fifth anniversary Odessa Dribbble Meetup took place on July 1. The event was traditionally organized by Provectus. This year, around 500 designers from all over Ukraine and neighboring countries visited the meetup. They discussed animation, web design, minimalism in design, infographics, polygonal graphics, as well as designer professional growth.
Presentations were made by speakers from such companies as Provectus, Readdle, form.com, Snapchat, Vintage Web Production, Projector, and others. The reports were followed by lively discussions with the speakers on trends and prospects in design.”
Vancouver, BC, Canada @ Metalab Gastown Office
“As a follow up to June’s meetup at MetaLab HQ in Victoria, the Vancouver team hosted 80+ designers for a meet-up in our new Vancouver office on July 19th. It was fantastic to get to meet some of the faces behind our local Dribbble friends’ profiles. We had a fun doodling competition, selfie stations, and a showcase of shots from some Vancouver-based Dribbbler’s. We’re stoked to have a wonderful community of designers here in Vancouver and can’t wait to host again in the future.”
Cape Town, South Africa @ Workshop 17, The Watershed
“The 7th Cape Town Dribbble Meetup, sponsored by Isoflow, was held on 6 July. Cape Town creatives put on their winter jackets and braved the cold weather to listen to inspiring talks, network and drink red wine. The evening was a great turnout of about 110 attendees. Shawn Roos (Indie) shared ideas on better ways to design for traditionally boring industries like insurance, and illustrator Dylan Jones of Jones and Co. took us on an entertaining journey of how he finds his inspiration and what it’s like to design with OCD.
We ended off the evening with an analog playoff competition where the best emoji illustration won a cash prize! Thanks to Dribbble for the continuous support to keep our South African design community inspired. “
Mexico City, Mexico @ Centraal
“The July Meetup was hosted by Edgar Villegas Pacheco, better known as “Llegas Pacheco”, one of Mexico’s up-and-coming digital illustrators. His work mixes Mexican phrases and popular sayings with a twist of humor and metaphor, which results in funny and relatable illustrations. Edgar has managed to make a business out of his passion, and he spoke about the challenges he faced and how he built a profitable business out of his hobby. Around 50 people joined us to talk Design, Illustration and to get their questions answered by our great host. After the talk, we enjoyed a Q&A session accompanied by pizza, snacks and beers provided by the amazing team at Centraal.
See you at the September Mexico City Dribbble Meetup!”
Hangzhou, China @ Points
“It’s my honor to organize this Dribbble meetup. On July 30th We hosted 150 guests from Hangzhou design community. Four speakers shared their new work, using real world examples and case studies, and we discussed the impact of the latest technology on design. We then ordered some snacks and enjoyed mixed-drinks, it was a big party.”
Newcaslte, United Kingdom @ Tyne Bank Brewery
“This year’s Newcastle Dribbble Meetup saw 100 creatives come together for an awesome evening celebrating design and community. We got together at local, independent brewery, the Tyne Bank Brewery for a quality night of inspiring talks, delicious beer and tasty pizza. Aude Charillon gave a very informative talk explaining the main principles linked to IP you need to be aware of. Following on from Aude, Mickey Devine shared his inspiring story about the journey that made Everything is my Design. Wrapping things up was Juli Vignette, who shared her 5 rules to rock your freelancing journey.
It was great to see such a huge turnout for the north east design scene, new friends were made and many beers were drank. Thanks to everyone who came, our guest speakers, our sponsors this year (moltin, Concept Personnel, and Newcastle BIPC) and to my good friends Florin Diaconu and Damian Kidd for their help with the event. Looking forward to next year!”
Barcelona, Spain @ Ironhack
“This year we joined forces with Dribbble to host our popular summer party, and hosted around 350 people! We had two exceptional guest speakers: designers Lorena G and Moncho Massé; enjoyed delicious ice creams and craft beer thanks to our sponsors Uay Balam and BrewDog Spain and danced until the sun came out with DJ Cherman and VJ Froch. See you soon, dribbblers!”
Jersey City, New Jersey @ Fresh Tomato Studio
“We had an amazing meeting at Fresh Tomato Studio located in Jersey City, with an attendance of almost 40 people coming from Manhattan, Brooklyn and other parts of Jersey. We played a ping-pong tournament and had a design contest where the winners got some cool prizes. Our special guest Emilie Liu shared her work and did a short talk on her process and experience working as a creative director and motion designer in NYC.
Was a great opportunity to get to know the local artists, and show people what a cool town is Jersey City. Looking forward to hosting the next one!”
Washington, DC @ Illustria
“The Illustria Dribbble meet up was a great success! Three panelists, Carlos Basabe, Liz Nugent, and Jackie Lay shared recent work, walked through their process and sources of inspiration, and answered questions from the audience. The Q&A lasted about 45 minutes and then attendees were encouraged to “Draw your Favorite Animal.”.
We’re looking forward to hosting our next quarterly event!”
Amarillo, Texas @ 7 Grill & Bar
“We had a great turn out of about 15 people we had a general chat with everyone and had a few new people join our group. We played an analog challenge to see who could design the most interesting 404 Error page for a brewing company. We planned to meet again next month.”
