All‑Stars: Orlando Dribbble Meetups

We never stop being amazed at members of the community who go above-and-beyond organizing Dribbble Meetups in their communities. Meetups have been a way for Dribbblers to meet face-to-face, whether casually mingling over a slice of pizza, or learning and growing together through amazing talks and exercises. Almost 40,000 people have attended Dribbble Meetups to date.

The first truly impressive community we’d like to highlight in this new series, All Stars, is Orlando, Florida. Other than San Francisco, more meetups have been held here than any other city in the US.

Meet the Host

Daissy is from Bogotá, Colombia and currently lives in Orlando, Florida, where she’s worked as a designer since 2008. She’s been a Pro Dribbble member since 2012 and has witnessed the growth of this amazing community pouring from all over the world. She remembers the first time she saw the Top Cities list when learning about hosting a meetup and thought, “we need to get Orlando on that list!”

Since then, Daissy has hosted 14 Dribbble Meetups. One might say she knows what she’s doing.

Thanks to the encouragement and support of fellow design community leaders in the AIGA Orlando board, Daissy held her first Dribbble meetup in October 2015. Since then, she’s had the pleasure of partnering with some awesome collaborators to bring the community together as often as possible.

Why did you start hosting Dribbble Meetups? You’ve done 14 meetups, that’s got to be a record!

While I first jumped at the challenge to become a Dribbble host as a way to exercise my managing skills, the entire experience of bringing people together, getting out of our comfort zones, and challenging each other to evolve our craft has been an enriching personal experience.

I feel a lot closer to my community and it makes me happy to be able to provide a platform where established artists and young talent get to share ideas, resources, and laughs in a friendly environment.

What are your hopes for your future Dribbble Meetups?

I strive to keep a diverse programming to represent the many reasons I love creativity and celebrating our local talent. My hope is to continue to make our meetups relatable, inspiring, and accessible for fellow dribbblers while growing awareness of our what’s great about Orlando through meaningful partnerships.

If you missed it, learn more about the Orlando design scene from the Pep Rally we published back in May of 2016, and see more of Daissy’s work on Dribbble Playbook and at RenderedThreads.com.

We can’t wait to see how the Orlando design community continues to grow and expand, to see what Daissy is cooking up next!
