In advance of the meetup, Orlando Dribbble Meetup organizer Daissy Linares gave us a tour of Orlando’s design scene.

Tell us what you love about Orlando.

To the locals, Orlando is more than theme parks. We pride ourselves on having a lively Downtown Startup community and a variety of young creative forces actively contributing to the urban tech revolution. One can spend the day enjoying local flavors and artisans at the farmers’ market, connecting with like-minded professionals at a meet up, attending gallery shows and live performances, or attending one of your favorite teams hockey, basketball or soccer games.

Tell us where you work, in relation to the rest of Orlando.

I work at Full Sail University in the City of Winter Park, adjacent to Orlando, as a Senior Web Designer under the award winning in-house team, called Platinum Creative. Full Sail focuses on accelerated learning for Entertainment, Media, Art, and Technology degrees.

Tell us about the Orlando design scene.

As a Valencia College design graduate professionally working in the hospitality and educational industries since 2008, I’ve seen a great amount of young and talented designers leave this town well-equipped for big city jobs. For me, however, being part of a close network of creatives that treated me like family from the beginning has been invaluable for my personal and professional growth.

Every month, I find myself surrounded by the most caring and talented people at our local AIGA Community Meetings, Design With A Purpose, Downtown User Experience, and Dribbble Meetups (which I host with the help of my design friends).

If you need an inspiring conference to come and see what we’re up to, check out the Orlando iX and An Event Apart later this year!

Choose three shots from Orlando Dribbblers you admire, and tell us what you like about each one.

The New New Economy by Justin Mezzell, above left.

Justin is simply a creative power house and we’re proud to have him representing the local talent within so many awesome projects remotely while contributing to the design community in town.

Apollo approaching the moon by Austin Remer, above center.

Austin is one of our designers at Full Sail. He’s constantly bringing polished and thoughtful work to the table and you’re only seeing a portion of his creations on Dribbble.

Q+A by Kevin Yang, above right.

Kevin is one of our recent Full Sail graduates actively perfecting his illustrations with every post. He’s a rising star who has taken full advantage of what Dribbble can do for young designers. Read Kevin’s FTW story.
