August Meetup Wrap‑Up

August saw 9 Dribbble Meetups in 6 countries. Over 1,148 of you attended! Last month, Dribbblers enjoyed amazing design presentations, talked type, made new friends, snagged some Dribbble swag, participated in Analog Playoffs, and more.

This Fall is packed with Dribbble Meetups already. There are over 18 Dribbble Meetups planned for September alone. Find out if there’s one near you on the Dribbble Meetups page or start your own.

Minneapolis, MN @ Fair State Brewing Cooperatives

From organizer Tina Floersch: “Designers from all over Minnesota gathered at Fair State Brewing Cooperative in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Designers mingled while drinking locally brewed beer and towards the end of the night, listened to a short talk by Tim Brown on establishing trust with your clients. We had some awesome swag to give-away that was a huge hit at this meetup! Overall, it was a huge success and there will definitely be more Minneapolis meetups in the near future!”

Brooklyn Type Thursday + Dribbble Meetup @ The West Coffeehouse and Bar

Organizer Thomas Jockin on the Type Thursday + Dribbble Meetup: “We had 13 typophiles drop by. Most were Dribbble Prospects in various fields, UX, Illustration, Design. Type designers Jack Curry and Greg Gazdowicz led critiques with feedback from other attendees. I was worried all the type talk would go over the novices’ heads, but when I checked in on them, I saw their eyes glowing and saying; ‘This is so cool; I love this level of detail!’ We’re all excited for the next Type Thursday in October, so make sure you RSVP!

Many thanks to our host, The West Coffeehouse and Bar, for taking care of us. And thank you to Julie Thompson for the lovely photography.”

Philadelphia, PA @ Independence Beer Garden

From organizer James Olstein: “Dribbble Philly met up at Independence Beer Garden on one of the coolest nights this summer for beers and games. Mostly beers. It was super fun! Over 150 designers attended. All the swag was gone within the first hour!”

Cape Town, South Africa @ IsoFlow

From organizers Daniel Klopper and Regina Casaleggio: “We had the first-ever Dribbble Meetup in Cape Town, South Africa. Over 40 local designers, illustrators and developers attended. Demand was so high that the peeps at IsoFlow, who hosted the event, had to make a last-minute venue change to accommodate everyone. It was in the most rad theater, sponsored by 22seven.

The Analog Playoff was local and lekker! We had to use South African slang words (lekker, eish!, mybru etc) as inspiration.

Pizza and beer made our tummies full and Dan and Rich’s surprise ‘attendance’ via video made us feel a little more connected to the rest of the world! (You can watch the video here.)”

Delhi, India @ DMI

From organizer Deepika Dutta: “DMI hosted the first Delhi Dribbble Meetup on August 28th. Thank you all who could join in to set the foundation stone for Design Meetups in the Delhi/NCR region. I hope we can engage more frequently moving further and create a creative and fun community. Let’s get the Dribbble Ball rolling!”

Adobe Creative Jam Boston @ District Hall

Our own Dan Cederholm attended Adobe Creative Jam in Boston as a judge. Over 200 designers attended! Six teams had two hours to create work based on the theme “Everything isn’t as it seems.” Attendees listened to presentations, watched the teams compete, and helped vote to pick winners.

There were useful presentations, lively discussions, gifts from sponsors, and other pleasant moments. See more photos from the event on Facebook. The next Odessa Dribbble Meetup will be held in 2016.”

Kathmandu, Nepal @ The Entrance Cafe, Bakhundole

From organizer Amit Bajracharya: “The Kathmandu Dribbble Meetup (#DribbbleKTM) was the first Dribbble Meetup in Nepal. On August 22, 140 designers, artists, Dribbblers, programmers, writers, etc., gathered. There was presentation on branding, marketing the design, UI/UX, Human Computer Interaction, a panel discussion, and various networking sessions. The participants took home event T-shirts and Dribbble, InVision, and Shopify swag. This was one of the successful designer meetups in Nepal. The event was managed by ‘Namaste Kathmandu’ and sponsored by Expresiv Studio, Responsive Pixel, Butta, Kathmandu Beer, and Bhav Products.”

The Kathmandu Dribbble Meetup was featured in the major national daily of Nepal, The Himalayan Times. Check out the story here and here! Keep up with Dribbble Kathmandu happenings via the twitter account, @dribbbleKTM.

Auckland, New Zealand @ Vend HQ

From Jade Tan Swea Phin, a Product Designer at Vend: “We had a crowd of 50 turn up and it was a full house! We combined the two things we love doing: getting a bunch of hungry creatives into a room, and filling them up with delicious bagels, beer, and awesome conversations! Our Auckland August Dribbble Meetup was a blast, exploring the impact of design in the products we create, the relationships we cultivate, and the social environment we live in. So much Dribbbly goodness we can’t wait for the next one.”
