We asked, and you answered. Thousands of design professionals across the globe shared their insights about the design industry and where it’s heading. Today, we’re excited to announce findings from Dribbble’s Global Design Survey and equip you with the data you need to make informed decisions about your career growth in design—now and in the future.
What is the Global Design Survey? Dribbble’s Global Design Survey is one of the largest design surveys ever conducted. From January-February 2019, more than 17,000 design professionals completed a 50-question survey, providing us with data behind designer salaries, career trends, and what’s next for your design discipline. The goal? To collect essential information that would help us better serve our community and propel the design industry forward as a whole. Today, we’re thrilled to release our findings.
Before checking out the survey results in all of their glory, we’re sharing more insight into the data gathered, and what it all means for you. Here’s a brief overview of what to expect:
Dig into the details of designer demographics both globally and in the United States. You’ll find data on the average age ranges of designers, education levels, employment status, and more. Who do you think is more likely to have children—global or US respondents?
Hiring designers? We identify what’s most important to a designer’s career—hint, it’s not just competitive pay! Get even more insight into designers’ job satisfaction in their current roles and their employment status by specialty.
Is your design specialty in-demand? Learn which types of designers companies are planning to hire this year, and how many designers they plan on adding to their team. You’ll also find insights into how designers were contacted to get hired in their current roles.
Are you being paid what you’re worth? Learn which design specialty gets paid the most and where—from which state leads the US with the highest-paid designers on average, to which design discipline leads the pack with the highest average yearly salary. Find out how your design salary compares.
What skills can help grow your design career? Designers named the most important skills they want to learn in the next 2-3 years to advance their careers. Also, learn how designers in different disciplines primarily learned design.
Does remote rule? We uncover remote work insights from team mix to designer discipline, pros and cons, and answer the oft-asked question, does it pay to work remote? Who do you think earns more—remote or onsite designers?
Looking to level-up your freelance game? We dig into the top ways freelancers were contacted about work opportunities last year. We also reveal the percentage of designers who freelanced in the past year—the answer may surprise you!
