Timeout: Piotr Rybacki

Who are you?

I am Piotr also known (in English) as Peter. I graduated from journalism and social communication, and I also studied business management and psychology. In my projects, I always keep an eye on typography, colors, animation/motion, all based on the primary things: usability and user experience. I always want to improve products. First I prototype, then create interaction design, wireframes, mockups, and the final version. I have professional experience as a designer, team leader, and creative director. I am very creative person with many ideas who is thinking outside of the box and it is a pleasure for me to keep making progress with my knowledge and experience.

My expertise revolves around interactive, UX / UI design, social media, and content creation. For approximately ten years I have created visual, web and UI/UX design, shot and edited film clips, and developed my skills in many different ways. I spend my free time playing extreme sports, ballroom and street dancing, and various outdoor activities.

What are you working on?

In my design career I used to work at creative agencies and big corporations. Currently, I am working for startup company - Shift Health as a Lead UI/UX Designer. I am creating projects for their healthcare market.

As usual, there are also tasks where I have to use my motion design and front-end developing skills like HTML5 / CSS3. Working for healthcare startup is new and different, but an awesome opportunity for me. After work, I am spending time on 3D graphics and animation projects to build my skills.

Choose a favorite shot of yours. Why is it a favorite?

I made this project when I was working on the biggest zombie game production: Dying Light. I was working as a UI/UX designer for The International Brand Management Department of Techland. I designed the main site, product card for BoxOffStore, and many banners and marketing assets for ad campaigns connected with this big production. It was a great opportunity for me. I worked in close co-operation with game designers, producers, developers and all the hard work I could see my name in the credits.

Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?

I work on iMac + good ole’ Apple Thunderbolt Display. From the software side, I am spending 90% of my time with Adobe Creative Cloud, VSSH, Webstorm, and Slack + web based apps like UXPin and Invisionapp. Soon, I am planning to move back to a desktop PC and some 4k monitors because Apple, unfortunately, is killing my hardware upgrade creativity.

This is a very nice project created by Focus Lab. My one of favorite design quotes is “less is more” and I think it’s a good explanation of what you can see in this shot. Nice, clean animation, showed in a very flat, easy, and interesting way. I always like projects created by Focus Lab because they are fresh.
