Who are you?

I’m a freelance illustrator and multidisciplinary designer living in Brooklyn. I specialize in tactile design pieces that I photograph and sometimes animate out of my studio in Brooklyn, New York.

What are you working on?

I just wrapped up a cover and spread for an Aspen-based magazine, and an identity and swag for an NYC-based theater group. I have (wonderful) Illustration reps and in-between projects, I pick up design or art direction jobs, collaborate with friends, and work on personal projects .

I love doing commercial work but sometimes its really great to get an opportunity to have free reign. This album art was a piece I made for my good friends in Cathy. I had a great time weaving in bits from past posters for them (bananas, painted beer cans, and hot dogs) in this gross-out sundae. In the shot, you can see a rebound of the promo for the record release show. The guys let me write the splits themed copy. Such troopers.

Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?

My process is a little bit different for each project. Usually, I’ll sketch and put together a deck of concepts but for this, I had free reign and just went with my idea. I shopped around for the perfect green ice cream, set up this mess, and photographed it in my studio. I used photoshop for retouching and the GIF animation, InDesign for the type.
