Dribbble’s heading to Chicago! We’re coming for next week’s Dribbble × Threadless meetup at Threadless HQ (above), and can’t wait to shoot hoops, hang out with you Chicagoland Dribbblers, and celebrate Threadless’s new Artist Shops.

Austin, Bhubaneswar, DC, and London also have meetups next week. The rest of you, take an online tour of Chicago with Threadless Artist Shops Account Director and Comic Book Czar Lance Curran.

Tell us what you love about Chicago.

Chicago is incredibly diverse. It’s a hardworking city that values collaboration and offers so many ways to be yourself and do your own thing. There is art everywhere, from the architecture, the parks, culinary, corporate, DIY, small and large galleries, the streets, festivals, and the #1 rated museum in the world just happens to be The Art Institute of Chicago.

Tell us where Threadless is.

Threadless is in the West Loop, just a short walk from the heart of downtown and only a few blocks away from the United Center.

Tell us about the Chicago design scene.

The design scene here is as diverse and amazing as the city itself, from large corporate agencies such as IDEO and Leo Burnett to some of my favorite small design companies such as Delicious Design League. Billy from Delicious is one of the founders of the Adventures in Design podcast that is one of the best and most popular around. There’s a whole host of freelance designers who range from street art, fine art, and graphic design and it’s cool to see how many artists cross across all these genres and platforms.

Choose a shot each from three Chicago designers, and tell us what you like about each

Big Hugs vs. MechaHugs by Phineas X. Jones, above left

Chicago has become quite the beer city. I’m a huge fan of creative beer labels and Half Acre’s Big Hugs series never disappoints. Phineas pulls this off incredibly well with a Kaiju Battle of epic proportions.

Mini-Hovering Art Director by Delicious Design League, above center

Delicious designed these amazing paper dolls for the HOW Design Live conference mixing great design, craftiness, and humor. I’m always a fan of design that makes you interact with it.

Threadless Loves Coffee by Mig Reyes, above right

Making design out of coffee spills is perfect for the theme of the challenge. Using non-typical tools to create design and show your creativity is always rad.

If you can’t meet Lance in person on September 16, you can find him at Dribbble and on Twitter.

Enjoy reading about the Chicago design scene? Check out London (meetup September 16) and New Orleans (meetup October 7), then go meet designers from your own great city at the next meetup.
