“Off the grid” takes on new meaning when talking patterns. Designer, illustrator and Code School Art Director Justin Mezzell explains.
“Being someone that works in a more geometric environment, the grid is everything. With patterns, however, I find myself having to bend those rules on occasion in service to the greater good: optics.” This, says Justin, requires a big-picture POV.
“Breaking the grid on what’s mathematically sound to ensure that something is more visually balanced is bound to happen when you’re thinking less about the piece as the sum of its parts and more about it in the context of a single unified experience; the parts are in service to the whole.”
Below, Justin’s Re:Vision Pattern joins patterns created by eight more Dribbblers over the last six months. Get off the grid and enjoy.
