UX/UI Designer (Contract)

We are building an optimal user experience that is engaging, user-focused, and data-driven for the developers and organizations who use our CommunityBridge platform; and simplifying the path the production so that our development teams can focus on what matters most. 

You will be focused on the why, what and how of the CommunityBridge platform. The why involves user motivation for adopting the platform, whether it be related to automating tasks they currently perform manually, or the views and values of our organization and the open source communities we support. The what, focuses on the functionality, what can people actually do with it. Which gets us to the how, which is designing the functionality in an accessible and aesthetically pleasing way. It is about creating a platform that developers and organizations can form meaningful experiences with, and ensuring that the substance of CommunityBridge comes through and provides a seamless, fluid experience.

You will be an integral part of our creative and development teams, helping us tackle key challenges by crafting seamless user-centered experiences. You have extensive UX experience, and are excited by the challenge of a fast-paced design/development environment, and working across teams to enable our communities to use our platform - easily.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply user-centered design processes and keeping up with the latest trends, methodologies and tools in native app design
  • Deliver pixel perfect visual designs based on UX wireframes & specs
  • Interpret usability testing, user research, and web analytics to uncover insights and identify gaps
  • Lead exploratory design sessions, mapping workshops and other collaborative working sessions with team members and partners
  • Present recommendations on functionality, content, and navigation that are considerate of the iterative process
  • High-fidelity mockups: detailed and polished screen designs that show exactly how the app or website will look in use
  • Prototyping: a clickable, end-to-end journey of the mockups, that allows users to test the experience of moving between screens
  • UI layout optimization: the UI designer might receive low fidelity wireframes at the start of the project, and propose optimizations for example, making buttons positions more consistent between screens
  • Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces

Experience

  • Deep understanding and real passion for UX, you design technically and craft engaging customer experiences
  • Recognized as an expert with production skills, you have an eye for detail of typography, intuitive layouts and design system development
  • Known for your ability to recognize and predict use-cases & user interaction
  • Knack for working with happy path, edge and corner cases, you are familiar with how to incorporate them into designs
  • Enthusiastic about modern design practices and methodologies, and working in an agile environment
  • Poised and confident in understanding mobile devices, native gestures and what works best for mobile (or doesn’t work) and why
  • Solid understanding of accessibility best practices, and an ability to create accessible products
  • Talented at understanding design problems, breaking them into actionable pieces and providing insight and clarity

Required Skills

  • Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role
  • Portfolio of design projects
  • Knowledge of wireframe tools (e.g. Wireframe.cc and InVision)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of design software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Team spirit; strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders
  • BSc in Design, Computer Science or relevant field
