UX/UI Designer - ArcGIS 3D Scene Viewer

At the Esri R&D Center-Zurich we lead the development of Esri's core 3D web technologies: the ArcGIS API for JavaScript and the ArcGIS Scene Viewer. With a focus on urban planning, our tools provide powerful 3D mapping and spatial analytics capabilities to users across many disciplines and industries: from conservation, forestry, and earth sciences to telecommunications, utilities, and transportation solutions.


Responsibilities


  • Help us advance the UX/UI of the ArcGIS Scene Viewer, the popular 3D map viewer for experts, stakeholders and the public.
  • Create novel, innovative designs for presenting, editing, analyzing geographic 3D data and interacting with 3D maps on the web.
  • Gather requirements and synthesize them into user stories together with our product managers and engineers.
  • Craft design documents at various levels of fidelity, from UX flows or high-level wireframes to interactive prototypes or detailed visual designs.
  • Engage with the whole team in continuous collaboration to discuss, implement and refine designs.
  • Contribute to Esri's design system Calcite.
  • Stay up to speed on latest mobile, web, and responsive design patterns and technologies
  • Bachelor's degree in interaction design, graphic design
  • 2+ years of professional web application design experience
  • Portfolio emphasizing web and mobile interaction and design skills
  • Strong knowledge of industry standard design and prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Adobe XD)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distill complex ideas to their essence
  • Understanding of 3D space to conceptualize and communicate design ideas


Recommended Qualifications


  • Experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS (Sass/Less)
  • Knowledge of 3D tools such as Blender, Unreal Engine, Rhino, Maya, or similar
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS or GIS software in general, with emphasis in map design/cartography
  • Experience in using Agile software development methods (SCRUM etc)
