Design Brief

Wordmark, Icon, and Simple Brand

About the project

I’m Sean, a technology consultant, government innovator, and occasional talking head. I’m gearing up to launch a newsletter, called “The Disconnect”, on technology, tech culture, and how the companies that increasingly dominate these spaces collide with existing systems and institutions like democracy, retail, and banking.

What do I need?

I need a wordmark, icon, and simple brand identity for my newsletter

Why do I need it?

I’m interested in growing my audience in the technology and government spaces, and I would like a brand identity to build this workaround.

My vision for the project?

I don’t have any existing brand assets, so the wordmark and icon need to be created from scratch. They need to fit in among other web-based brands and newsletters that operate in this space, without getting lost in the crowd. I’d like something modern, strong, and trendy that leans into the design aesthetic of a large tech or digital media company. For the icon, I would like to explore some interesting ways of building on/around the letter “d”.

Here are some examples of styles I like:

Where will the icon and wordmark be used?

The icon and wordmark would be used on social channels for the profile picture and profile header, as well as on the newsletter subscription landing page (not set up yet), and as a header for each newsletter. The icon specifically should look just as great as a website favicon as it does in a social media profile picture.

What file types are required?

I will need to use the wordmark and icon in both digital and print formats so please provide files that cover this, plus the source files, should I need either edited in the future.

Target audience?

Tech executives and enthusiasts, Government movers and shakers

Deadline?

I’m willing to wait for the right partner to help bring this to life, no hard deadline.
