Gift Card Platform Redesign
Our goal: Provide the best gift card UX to both buyers & sellers, making gift cards super easy to buy, sell, and redeem. We want design to be a competitive advantage for us - by thinking deeply through how people interact with gift cards through their whole lifecycle rather than just focusing on the surface level details like how to place orders or view cards.
Our values:
- Agile & iterative: We’re not looking to launch a massive redesign all at once, but in the smallest pieces that can deliver value to users. Rapid iteration is better than a perfect launch.
- Fast & simple: Lightweight UI, with a small bundle size for instant loading on the web. Fast & simple is better than slow & fancy.
- Human: In a world of AI slop and social disconnection, we want to communicate that the human touch still matters. This doesn’t mean we’re against the use of AI tools for design or coding, just that we want the final product to feel human and make the user feel valued.
Scope for this initial project: Design & build a new, combined marketing website & buyer UX. Currently, we have a static marketing website hosted in WordPress and a separate gift card shop we developed with a Vue frontend. We want to build a single UX (hosted in our main platform, not WordPress) that combines both updated marketing content with the gift card shop. This would include pages like:
- Marketing: Home page, buy from us (why we're trustworthy, our guarantee, etc.), sell to us, FAQ, contact us
- Shopping: Home page, brand page (shows cards available for purchase by card value & price), category page (shows brands available in a given category)
- Checkout: Shopping cart, buyer sign up & identity verification, payment selection, order review, order confirmation/thank you
- Gift cards: Gift card list/wallet, gift card details, print a gift card
- My account: Order history, order details, account settings (profile, security, saved payment methods, etc.), product alert list & details
We want to build this quickly and iteratively in chunks that make sense - e.g. perhaps building and deploying the marketing pages followed by the shopping pages - focusing on the pages that buyers see first to create a great first impression.
After this initial project is completed, we have additional projects we'd like to complete by October, including a mobile app (both design & development), browser extension, and redesign of our seller UX. We'd like to find a team that has the expertise to complete all of these projects.
Not in scope:
- New features: Our primary focus at present is to create a great UX for our existing feature set.
- Backend development: Since we’re not adding new features at the moment, we anticipate most design work can be done using the functionality already available through our API. If new API endpoints are needed to support new user flows, our in-house team can build them.
- Full brand redesign: While we want to overhaul the look & feel of our marketing site & platform, we want to provide some visual continuity in terms of logo/color scheme/etc. to reduce user confusion as we launch components of the new design.
