To Do Visual Design Challange

I had a visual design challenge to do this week, so this is one of my mockups. I was inspired by Evernote's "card sorting" design pattern for their primary navigation tabs. However, I was split between having skeuomorphic checklist design (like iOS Reminders) or pure digital checklist (similar to the gesture-based Clear iOS app). I decided to go with faking reality for now, but I feel a little iffy about it. What do you think I should do?
