Horror Movie Poster Study

I entered a horror movie contest and this was my end result. (Came in first place!)

I saw a lot of the classics for themes like zombies and vampires so I wanted to go a different route. I started to think what am about my insecurities and fears. One thing I kept creeping around to was mirrors and that they reflect everything about you even your misgivings. That's where Vanity stemmed from. The darker side of beauty and where it can take some people.

I wanted a dark antique mirror that helped suggest a more haunted theme for vanity. I relied on asymmetry to create the focus point inside the mirror. I wanted to channel an old Juon (The grudge) poster I saw back in the late 90's as my initial inspiration. They focused in on a face and made it super creepy.
