Edit icon

Though simple this icon solves a very complex user issue. The icon needed to communicate edit or change from one state to another and needed to do so in a way that could be understood on a global level. Since this software is made for Oral people, that is, they dont use a written language for learning or communication, this icon needed to communicate at that level. Since its very likely that people from these cultures havent used or seen a pencil, much less understand its function, the status quo edit icon would be completely useless. I wanted to covey a change but not a complete and total revision. So instead of changing from one shape to another I depicted the change from a filled circle to and unfilled circle. I also needed to convey that the edit could be made to change the state back, hence the cyclical arrows. In addition I wanted to make the icon as ballanced as possible so when it is presented with other elements it doesn't make a button or word feel "off". I did this by rounding the arrows and making the circles the same size and distance from other pieces. I also made it so the nagitive space that runs through the icon is a rectangle giving the icon a feeling of alignment especially with other elements.
