Introduction
The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) is the official and trusted source of internationally-comparable data on education, science, culture and communication. As the official statistical agency of UNESCO (which is itself an agency of the United Nations), the UIS produces the data to fuel the policies and investments needed to transform lives and propel the world towards its development goals.

The Ask
UNESCO Institute for Statistics entrusted Weight Creative with the opportunity to strengthen the organization's message and reach by working on a number of deliverables. Most pressingly was a short educational animation regarding Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how the UIS develops methodologies, standards, and indicators needed to achieve education goals in science and innovation, as well as culture and communication.
Another multifaceted project that Weight Creative undertook involved conceptualizing and designing a new interface for interacting with the UIS data portal. This was a broad task concerning deep levels of data that necessitates being manipulated and sorted by many factors, displayed in comparable and visual ways, as well as saved, added to, and shared.

The Solution
After some discovery sessions and thorough planning, Weight Creative worked on a storyboard in collaboration with the UIS as a starting point for the 'Data for Lifelong Learning' educational short video. The video needed to be concise and accurately depict the tools developed by the UIS to measure learning and how to use the data to improve learning outcomes.
The UIS data portal was also a resounding success, which was designed around a user-centric philosophy that integrates advanced functionality with clean intuitive design. Weight Creative analyzed user data from a needs assessment survey and worked with the UIS to develop interface solutions that target 3 key user segments. Power users can easily download datasets as well as add their own data to visualization tables for comparison, saving and sharing. And while this is powerful, more casual users can quickly navigate around the portal and view popular datasets effortlessly while viewing quick-facts and important curated statistics.
