Technically, it was designed as a temporary logo... but like all "temporary" logos, it just might stick; but not because of "those reasons".

It just happened to work REALLY well in the design they already had, and the dot works with a lot of philosophical ideas that they're working on.

They also are working with a ".co" instead of a ".com", and that's a challenge when you're trying to communicate a brand outside of the normal parameters of expectation. e.g. Overstock.com that moved in this kind of progression over the years:

Overstock.com > Overstock > O.com > O.co

I would have totally scrapped this logo in no time at all had I not gotten a deeper look at the product and seen that the dot was a reflection of something in the product. I really believe there are too many logo design trends that don't give enough, or any, credence to the idea that a logo should have a philosophical meaning to what a company is trying to accomplish. It should be a representation of who you are, what you represent, and idea that separates you from the clones.

Be something that your EMPLOYEES can stand behind as much as your customers can recognize.
