Pro Tip: Do Pro Bono Work

Doing work for free for organizations that need design but can’t afford it is 1) good for the community, 2) good for your soul, and 3) gives you a chance to try stuff that paid clients rarely let you do.

Start small — block out 10hrs this month to do some work for an org in your city. Do your research, go ask them what needs they have, and offer to help. Be as professional with them as you would be with a paid client. (I even invoice pro bono clients, and just discount the invoice to zero it out. It’s an opportunity to educate them on what working with professional designers should be like.)

Go, help, learn, have fun.
