The Museum of Jewish Heritage is a memorial dedicated to people who died in the Holocaust during World War II. Located in Battery Park City, the building is topped by a hexagonal structure called the Living Memorial to the Holocaust. This structure depicts a hexagram which symbolizes the six points of the Star of David, the symbol of the Jewish community.
When you enter the building, you can feel right away a quiet atmosphere, a respectful silence, almost self-evident. The Core Exhibition relates the Jewish history in the 20th and 21st centuries showing personal objects and telling multiple stories around three themes (before, during and after the Holocaust): Jewish Life a Century Ago, The War Against the Jews, and Jewish Renewal. Then, special exhibitions and interactive installations complement the main collection.
In fine, this cultural and retrospective journey is well-sequenced, and helps you understand a lot of the Jewish culture, their way of living, and their past suffering. It’s a part of The History timeline, a rich experience both moving and meaningful. Go visit, at least once.
