Pilgrimage Scroll

Based on a fifteenth-century hajj certificate from the Qatar-based Museum of Islamic Art’s collection, the illustrated pilgrimage scroll was designed to be a modern take on an ancient tradition, a gift to those who had completed the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Sold in the Museum shop, the scroll includes exquisite hand-drawn reproductions of drawings from historical references paired with graceful calligraphy redrawn by Soraya Syed, Art of the Pen. The scroll shows the Ka’aba and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, among other key sites, and is beautifully printed with metallic inks. Each scroll is encased in an ornate metal casket, handmade in India, making each piece unique.
