Activation (UX and product strategy)

Activation is the stage when people actually start using your product. It might sound like a trivial detail to new entrepreneurs who often think, “Of course everyone who downloads the app will fill out our sign-up form and will then use the product!” but that's rarely true.

Many of the users are unlikely to enter personal info or credit card details if they haven’t activated yet. So asking them to fill in a complex sign-up form can lead your newly acquired users to bouncing as soon as they open the app. It's because they need to appreciate the full value of your product first, and need to be confident that the value is greater than the Cost + Time + Focus.

The same is happening in the real world. Employees in a store don't scream at you the moment you enter -“What is your full name?!”, “What is your email address?!”, “Where do you live?!” They are trying to create a good first impression.
One way to increase the number of activated users is allowing them to easily explore the most popular content and core features through guest access. Show them beautiful images, attractive content, valuable features and interesting UX design so they can fall in love with your app. You can always ask for personal info later.
