Bill Bryson Book Design

Travel is a deeply personal experience. Whilst traveling around Australia and New Zealand I kept a small sketchpad on me to document the places I'd been to.

When given the opportunity to rebrand a selection of travel books by Bill Bryson I knew that I wanted to bring this sketchpad style into the designs. I aimed to reflect the rough, rustic traveling lifestyle into a professional form for these covers.

The books chosen were African Diary, Down Under, Travels Around Europe and Notes From A Big Country. 4 books, 4 corners of the globe.

Each of these hardback books feature entirely hand-drawn sleeve designs. The cover subjects were iconic landmarks, foods, flora and fauna from each place mentioned in the books and similar to the sketches I produced myself. I wanted the designs to be on white backgrounds and let the artwork speak for itself.
