Mathson Design Co. Logo

Branding shouldn't be overly complicated, in my opinion. KISS, right? Keep it simple, silly. In all seriousness, though, keep that fucking shit simple! Don't overdo it.

Here's a very s i m p l e green-backed, off-white-fronted block of shapes, but there's more:

Color choice is important. My choices: @pantone Green inspired (2424U) and an off-white, "grey". Colors chosen for a number of reasons, from feeding my superstitions with numbers that my mind says it likes: 2 and 4, to my consistent answer to the "what's your favorite color?" question as far back as I can remember. Green evokes a lot of things for me. It's personal.

Design for others, absolutely - crucial! Design for yourself though, too. Design a logo you personally want to rep on a tee, a website you want to share, an app you'll use, or an approach that you embody and share.

My first official LLC (been receiving under-the-table "gifts" from clients for too long, time to pay Big Brother). I created and opened this thing, Mathson Design Co., at the start of Q1 2017. It's my holding company for all of the outward expressions of creativity and making that I choose to charge a dime for. It's a big deal for me, for us, and the journey truly is the destination.

Keep making things. Just get out there and do it! No excuses, stay creative.

Whether intentionally or subconsciously, as designers, we find inspiration in a lot of places. This brand mark is inspired by the beauty and simplicity of other's logos (@draplin and @producthunt), by the colors and scenery of my home state's surroundings (Montana), by my future wife's constant support (Michelle, you're my person, and simply the best one around, at that), and by so many other things, places, ideas, thoughts, doodles, and on.

Decided to draw it back, veering away from initial, intricate concepts and just make a fucking "M".
