The Draft House Beer Mat's

I was challenged to design a graphic that I think represents the Draft House style. This could be anything, an idea for a menu graphic, a simple graphic for an event, something that represents what think will suit the Draft House.

The Draft House is an intriguing establishment where Beer is hero, offering an eclectic range of craft beers from around the world served by enthusiastic, expert staff. Each location has a feel of vintage Americana coupled with a strong nod to each location’s heritage. The Draft House appreciates the idea of the pub being at the heart of the community and has created an environment that inspires conversation and creativity. A bold tone of voice which is impactful and ‘tongue in cheek’, forms a great contemporary contrast to a place that beautifully embraces the past.

The Draft House is not your usual drinking house, and though it does snuggle up with our idea of a Great British Pub, the Draft House is the pioneer of what the Great British Pub of the future will be. So I wanted to design something that was not a game changer in its function, I wanted to embrace the elements of the old local whilst giving it a contemporary twist.

The Beer Mat (coaster) is a dying drinking partner of times before. Back then, it was much more than a bit of rigid card that was there to almost save us from dampening our groins in a dribble of the finest. We also used beer mats to mark our territory, to tear into a million pieces on an awkward first date and the beer mat became the first official document of many a great idea scribbled onto its base. So, I have designed a way of bringing it back from near extinction, not to re-invent its use, but to cherish the part it has always played in our history and reality of the old Great British Pub.
