Blue Jackets Score: December 31, 2016

Game 35 / Check out the whole project here

This game was simply a great way to wrap up 2016. The Jackets beat the Wild 4-2 on New Years Eve to extend their winning streak to 15 and snap the Wild’s 12. One of the best parts is the game actually lived up to the hype. This matchup was being dubbed “historic” because of the streak both teams were riding. With a combined 26 wins, there has never been another match with that many consecutive wins in the NHL (or pro sports even!) With Cam Atkinson getting back into his goal groove he was able to convert 2 into the net. The defenders got their hands dirty too with 2 goals from Jones and Johnson. There was definitely some fire in everyone’s bellies and the penalty box saw it’s fair share of roughing and fighting calls. The most talked about scuffle happened 2 minutes into the second period. Anderson and Stewart threw down the gloves after Stewart continued to prod Josh with his stick during face-off formation. Pretty typical. What wasn’t expected was that during that same stoppage of play the Wild’s Dumba started fighting with Matt Calvert. It is a huge no-no to have multiple fights during a stoppage after one has ended, so Dubma and Calvert were both ejected from the rest of the game and awarded game misconduct. Luckily loosing a player didn’t hurt the Jackets much and we help onto yet another victory.

Game Highlights:
-Cam is on fire with nine goals and seven assists in the last 12 games
-The CBJ have officially swept December with 0 losses and 14 wins, making them just the second team in NHL history to win every game in a calendar month of at least 10 games
-Bob was named the NHL December 2016 player of the month
