Hound Voice Assistant app launcher icon I designed with Womo Iyegha at SoundHound.
For a long time the internal prototype used a blue SoundHound S symbol button for branding reasons and to keep parity with the SoundHound apps S symbol button. However it muddled brand differentiation between the two apps and confused users who were not used to seeing it outside of the context of the SoundHound apps specialized music identification FAB.
The icon needed to be consistent across software and hardware systems as well as quickly comprehended as a voice search activation button by leveraging learned symbolic memory from interacting with other voice assistants.
The unique spiraling wave around the button is actually a hidden SoundHound S symbol design I came up with during one of my early iterations on the project.
