Care Coordina

Care coordina

Project overview

The product:

Intelligent healthcare booking assistant platform that effortlessly manages a wide range of health and wellness needs. This innovative solution integrates advanced technology for streamlined scheduling, medical information access, and support across various healthcare services, offering users a user-friendly and informed experience.

Project duration:

9 weeks.

The problem:

Users need a way to utilize a health assistant that can deliver personalized research based on their specific health requirements. This is because of their busy schedules and the challenges they frequently encounter when attempting to navigate their health insurance provider's website to locate a healthcare professional and arrange appointments.

The goal:

Providing individuals with a simple, personalized, and user-friendly method to efficiently schedule appointments with healthcare professionals across various disciplines, facilitated by a professional health assistant.

My role:

This project provided me with the opportunity to independently oversee and guide every stage of the design thinking process, leveraging my expertise as a UX designer with experience in mobile and web UI design.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct user research.

  • Define the problem and provided insights to inform the ideation phase.

  • Define persona, user journey, empathy map and user flow.

  • Visual design of low-fi and high-fi wireframes, prototypes, and user testing.

Understanding the user

User research:

To understand user frustration, preferences, and demands, I carried out user research using interviews and surveys for my project. My goal was to acquire a deeper understanding of user needs and desires, enabling me to enhance the design of both my app and responsive website.

There are two types of user research methodologies: qualitative and quantitative research. I chose qualitative research because I had a time constraint.

Pain points:

Time: Finding experienced, skilled healthcare professionals is time-consuming. Despite the desire of users to prioritize their health and keep up with their regular routine.

Privacy: Certain users find it uncomfortable to ask about specific health matters over the phone and would rather use an app to schedule appointments, which helps them feel more comfortable.

Scheduling: Users require a way to communicate with their health practitioner, enabling someone else to conduct the necessary research and schedule appointments on their behalf.

Manage: Users find it frustrating when they cannot access and manage their medical records and history. Additionally, they often struggle due to the limited options available for follow-up care and monitoring.

Problem statement:

Kayla, a musician and music teacher, needs to schedule a doctor's appointment due to concerns about her ear health.

Persona:

User journey map:

Mapping out Kayla's user journey highlighted the benefits of developing a website that enables individuals without a designated primary care provider to discover, compare, choose, and communicate with healthcare professionals.

Paper wireframe:

Focusing on the core features identified during user research, I sketched the first wireframes using pen and paper.

Paper wireframe screen size variation:

I sketched it out by hand with iterations on paper. Additionally, I began developing designs for various screen sizes to ensure the website's complete responsiveness.

Digital wireframe:

To make the digital wireframes, I first sketched my ideas on paper. Then, I transitioned to developing low-fidelity wireframes using Figma. After several iterations, I came up with these wireframes.

I also started to work on digital wireframes for additional screen sizes to ensure the website's complete responsiveness.

Low-fidelity prototype:

I created a low-fidelity prototype using the user flow diagram and wireframes to test functionality before incorporating it into the final design and to ensure accessibility for end-users.

Usability study:

Having acquired key insights from the usability study, let's examine the findings and identify the specific issues that a designer can address.

  1. Doctor profile screen: It requires additional information to provide more details for users to make an informed choice between doctors.

Details missing: Accepted insurance types, treatment costs, languages spoken, and recommended appointment types (in-office or virtual) are currently not available.

  1. Doctors list view: Users attempted to find healthcare providers who accepted their insurance or matched their gender preference, but the application lacked filtering options.

Details missing: Filtering capability.

  1. Recommended doctors: Users attempted to find highly recommended doctors, yet the application lacked information on recommended experts.

Details missing: Valid user recommendations for health experts.

Refining the design

Mockups:

Based on insights from usability studies, I implemented design modifications, such as enhancing the practitioner profile.

High-fidelity prototype:

After completing the low-fidelity wireframes, I worked on creating the final designs with the goal of ensuring simplicity and user-friendliness. The main color theme I used was blue to instill a sense of trust in the users.

Accessibility:

  1. When choosing a color palette, I ensured that the main colors adhered to WCAG AA Compliance before proceeding to design the user interface for each screen.

  1. These are both sans-serif fonts, ensuring easy readability. Introducing numerous typefaces can create a fragmented appearance on the site, and it also makes it difficult for users to determine where to focus their attention.

  1. I implemented a hierarchical text structure across the site, this helps the users distinguish various sections and information displayed on the screen.

Going forward

Takeaways:

Impact: Digital medical services are approached with caution by individuals, given the crucial importance of health in our lives. In response to this concern, I developed a platform with diverse features. Crafting the design for this platform poses a challenge due to its wide-ranging target audience, spanning ages 18 to 65. To optimize the user experience, it is crucial to address issues encountered by users with current site and create a site with a user-friendly interface.

What I learned: In my role as a UX designer for a healthcare platform, I've acquired valuable insights and knowledge throughout the design journey. Key takeaways encompass grasping user requirements, recognizing the significance of simplicity, considering accessibility, and incorporating user feedback.

Next steps:

  1. Obtain UX/UI feedback from designers with more experience in the field to improve design.

  1. After recording all the feedback received, I will proceed to implement the required design adjustments to enhance the overall user experience of the site.

  1. Develop a responsive design that works seamlessly across various platforms, ensuring a consistent user experience regardless of the device being utilized.
