Marina de València illustration

Marina de València illustration.

One of my absolute favorite places on earth, the Marina de València is a huge marina located in the city of València, Spain and one of my first drawings of landscapes from pictures with Figma.

This was, in fact, a project I worked on in my free time - an experiment of sorts - because I made it in Figma, which is not the standard software for drawing, but I believe the results speak for themselves: with a little practice even with a different software from the industry standard we can make great things!

Specifics:

  • I designed this poster in Figma starting from a picture I took of this amazing place;

  • I created the water and the sky by stacking multiple layers all of which are colored with a fading technique;

  • The moon is not a perfect circle by choice, to create a more realistic effect;

  • There are just two types of boats, catamarans, and sailboats, because they are the most common models in this marina and because I like them to be honest;

  • There are bushes and sea rocks, lights and restrooms, etc;

  • The big blue wall separates this marina from the commercial and big vessels (cruise ships) piers, and it is shown because there are very colorful containers and big commercial/container cranes in the background.

If you want to read more about it and about the process I invite you to scroll down this article/dribbble-post page :)

Hope you like this little personal project of mine; It is really a beautiful and special place.

Open to feebacks as usual :)

The Process

This was the original picture I took and from which I started the whole designing process.

Then, memories and images about this place that I already had in mind gave me the inspiration to go beyond the "simple" concept of designing and drawing exactly what the picture shows (see the big red moon, the cranes in the right background, the containers, etc.).

I, then, designed the sailboats taking inspiration from my favorite one, and proceeded with the dock, tender, and sea rocks (not shown in this picture up here, but shown in the complete one).

I then moved on to the catamaran and the other facilities, the cranes, etc., etc. going to the sky and sea, to get the whole result.

The end result

It was a fun and beautiful project to work on and I am very happy with the results, all considered (oh, and I used only the pen tool, Figma, therefore this is amazing to me!).

What do you think? Let me know!

Edoardo.
