Watercolor Painting Series - Women of Chinese Peranakan

This one a very old project of mine. This project takes me back to my early days as a designer. Back then, my design skills and ideas were still taking shape, and I was far from where I am today. But you know what? This project remains close to my heart, and I hold a special fondness for it. To this day, I often reflect on my early designs as a reminder of the ongoing journey of learning and improvement that defines my path as a designer.

While I do digital illustration as well, I’ve always had a soft spot for hand-drawn paintings over digital art. You could say I’m a bit old-fashioned, but for me, working with watercolor and brushes has always been my true passion for painting.

This is my final project of publication featuring a series of Indonesian Chinese Peranakan literature writers. The book comprises essays on women, then and now, highlighting how women’s destinies and lives are still often determined by men. As a modern feminist, this work fills me with pride, serving as a constant reminder of my ongoing fight as a woman. Whenever I reflect on this project, it reinforces my determination to grow and persevere, both as an artist and as a woman.
