Design Sprint | Ventures | WeDo

What was our mission statement?

WeDo: Connecting SMEs with Kiwis in New Zealand through purchasing services online.

Connecting homeowners and property managers with the right people for their repairs and renovations, New Zealand-wide.

Summary for WHY we started this work:

This particular business model wasn't as successful as expected. A whole re-design understanding of value proposition in market was required. Acquisition of new customer had dropped significantly in market.

5 days looked a bit like this

Day 1: Get inspired and choose a target (a piece of the problem we could solve for in a week)

Day 2: Ideate & Sketch solutions

Day 3: Decide on the best solutions

Day 4: Build a realistic prototype

Day 5: Test with target customer group

The first day was filled with 'Ask the Expert' sessions to create empathy in the room and remind everyone of things we may have forgotten, add to our insights and give us ideas for tomorrow.

Who was in the room?

2 Business Analysts

1 Senior UX Designers

3 Product Owners

1 Finance Manager

1 Technical Analyst

2 Programme Managers

1 Service Designer

1 Customer Journey Specialist

Day 1: First things was first, the completion of a Value Proposition Canvas.

Split between a provider of a service and a seeker of a service.

Below is an image of the empathy wall from our expert interviews, the Value Proposition Canvas[s], Market Best in Class Research [Lightning Talks] and Competitor Analysis looking at competing marketplaces who had a similar position in the New Zealand and International markets.

Day 2: We reviewed the current industry and competitors across the globe and locally who connects small business owners to people needing to get things done in their homes in a unique and revolutionary way.

We then captured how might we statements of inspiration of the back of this, giving us ideas to solution for on day 3.

Day 3: Ideation of solutions and dot voting on various parts we wanted to turn into a prototype.

Using the 4-step sketch method for ideation.

Then once various parts were chosen using heat map dot voting, as a group, it was time to storyboard.

A step-by-step story that we want to create a prototype for testing.

Storyboard

Day 4: Building a realistic prototype that we want to put in front of our customers for testing. There was a shift in mindset required here where we couldn't boil the whole ocean and test everything so we needed to get really clear on what was most important for us to understand.

We landed on "Do our customers know what WeDo is and how it can help them?"

We assigned roles and divided up the storyboard in the following way:

2-3 people to build the different components of the website (pages)

1 person to project manage the whole process from end to end so that the narrative and look and feel remain consistent. This person really needs to know how to keep everything together.

1 writer to include the text in the different components

1 or more people to grab the assets (photos/icons etc.)

1 person to write the interview script of questions we will be asking

In the end, it would be time to do a trial run and see how things have come together. Check everything against the storyboard and the questions. This was a time to fill gaps and fix things.

Day 5: Decoding and customer testing.
