Shepherd - Google Meet Productivity Extension

Project Overview

Shepherd is a productivity-focused Google Chrome extension for Google Meet. It empowers users to seamlessly take notes and plan their meetings within the Google Meet environment, enhancing virtual collaboration and meeting productivity.

My Role

As the lead product designer, I took charge of the entire design process, from conceptualization to implementation. I developed the design system and several key features for Shepherd as part of my collaboration with the Blott.io team.

Project Duration

The Shepherd project spanned from 2021 to 2022, encompassing an intensive design and development phase.

Problem Statement

In response to the growing prominence of remote work and virtual meetings, Shepherd was conceived to address the challenge of improving meeting productivity and ensuring that vital notes and plans could be seamlessly integrated into the virtual meeting space.

User Research

User interviews and usability tests were conducted for each new feature, providing valuable insights into user preferences and pain points.

The Shepherd interface was thoughtfully organized, with meeting details at the top and a versatile toolbar for accessing essential actions. The addition of tabs for tasks, private notes, and meeting notes facilitated effortless navigation.

Challenges and Solutions

A significant challenge was enabling users to access notes from previous calls during current meetings. The solution involved integrating a seamless note-retrieval feature to enhance continuity.

Iteration and Feedback

Design iterations were guided by stakeholder reviews and testing outcomes, ensuring that the final product catered effectively to user needs.

Results and Impact

The Shepherd extension made a significant impact, with over 1400 users onboarded within the initial months. The design efforts resulted in the creation of more than 500 designs, reflecting the app's extensive feature set.

Future Recommendations

Future enhancements could include refining certain UI elements to elevate the overall visual appeal and incorporating AI functionalities to further elevate productivity and user experience.
