Woof: Dog-Walking App Case Study🐶

Hi everyone 👋

My name is Evgeniia, I am a Dribbble Product Design Course Graduate and I wanted to share my graduation work focused on creating an app for dog owners who need help taking care of their pets while they are working or away.

Project Overview

Design Brief

🐶 The Problem

Dog owners enjoy spending time with their pets but sometimes need help with dog walks due to their busy schedules or when they are traveling. However, they often struggle with trusting other people to walk their dogs.

💝 The Pain Points

  • Finding a reliable dog-walker

  • Choosing a person they can trust with their pet and access to their house

  • Committing to the service before actually meeting the dog walker

🎯 The Goal

The goal of this project is to alleviate the pain point of trust by offering a platform where dog owners can find and book reliable dog walkers with ease. The app will prioritize establishing trust through transparent profiles, reviews, and clear communication channels. It will also focus on building a connection between the owner and the walker to foster a sense of familiarity and comfort. Ultimately, Woof seeks to create a safe and reliable dog walking experience, providing peace of mind to dog owners who need assistance in taking care of their furry friends.

Understanding the user

User Research

I conducted 2 interviews with dog owners who previously already had experience with using different dog-walking apps.

Based on it, I created the User Persona.

Market Research

I analyzed two main game players in the market of dog walking platforms: Rover and Wag and, additionally, I analyzed a platform for hiring a nanny for kids since it is a similar product for parents who also struggle to find someone to trust their children with.

User Flow

I wanted to keep the user flow as straightforward as possible and give the dog owner an opportunity to connect with the dogwalker before making a decision of booking the service to make sure that they feel confident and could establish a connection first.

Wireframing

I wanted to focus on showing the "hints" for the dog owners that the dog walker is reliable by adding the verification icon, reviews, video introduction, photos and experience.

First iteration + Usability Testing

During my first Visual Design Iteration, I tried to do everything exactly as it was in the wireframes and showed the prototype to 3 different users.

I received the feedback that the information on the walker's card is hardly readable and that when creating an account placeholder disappears which make it difficult to remember which information is being filled. I took all this into account for my second iteration.

Second Iteration

  • I have added the information about the free introductory meetings to the main screen.

  • I have decreased the amount of information shown on the walker’s card to not disperse the client’s attention
I made price labels coherent from both a map and the walker's card.

  • To the reviews I added the name of the pet and used a photo of the pet instead of showing the name of just the owner and their photo.

Next Steps

I want to continue on exploring the overall process of booking a dog walker with a focus on creating the pet's card and matching the requirements with dog walker's profiles making sure to show the dog owner the best possible match.
