This is the final treatment of my "chicago" custom type. The poster is for the We Need More Summer Tour 2011 stop in Chicago.
I wanted to depict the city through a part of its history, and I wanted to avoid taking the obvious route.
The area around Chicago was once populated with numerous native american tribes. The name of the city itself is generally considered to have derived from the native word shikaakwa - meaning "stinky onion," a plant that abounded in the swampy lowlands where Chicago now sits.
And now you know the rest of the story.

Love it! :)
Looking great olaus
Thanks guys. Wish I had a Pro account so I could show the whole thing, but they'll be up on the We Need More Flickr Page soon.
Why am I instantly drawn to things featuring Native Americans? Regardless, this is looking solid.

Excellent work! Was the illustration done by hand and brought into Illustrator?
Did the illustration in my sketchbook, scanned it in at an insanely high dpi (the poster is 24 x 36) and colored it in Photoshop.
You can see the full poster now on the We Need More Flickr Account!
limited number of 24"x36" prints available on request - send an email to email@example.com
