Conceptual National Newspaper Week ad campaign

All That's Left Without Newspapers

In an era with an ever diminishing landscape of newspapers – and a growing lack of trust in the media – it’s important to remind the public what the loss of newspapers entirely would mean for democracy.

To that end, a series of conceptual ads were created, highlighting exactly what would be left if local newspapers ceased to exist - fake news, propaganda, bias, etc. The posters focused on major daily newspapers, while the social media ads focused on community weeklies.

The design is type-heavy, and uses typefaces reminiscent of headlines used in many newspapers. The type has a rough, fading quality to it to emphasize how newspapers are fading, with "False info," "lies," etc. highlighted in a contrasting colour. A red, black and white colour palette was chosen, as they are common colours used in the newspaper industry, and the use of red creates a sense of urgency and warning.
