Book covers (collection )

Presented here are a collection of book covers, each accompanied by a concise narrative about it.

1- Tillas

The title of this fantasy book in Amazigh is TILLAS, which means darkness.

The title suggests the fall of beliefs and the fading of feelings.

In this artwork, I have used an appropriate photo of the model: Olena sergienko. And I worked on it using Photoshop techniques.

2- DARAT WUFRAG

The title of the book in Amazigh is DARAT WUFRAG,

which means (behind the fence) ~.

The artwork is full of intense emotion.

In this design, I combined four elements in order to obtain the desired effect..

3- AGADIR 2099

The idea behind this book cover was just an entertaining conversation between me and a friend on the Corniche of Agadir, the amazigh city world-famous for its wide and warm beach.

He said to me: What if what they say about global warming and climate change is true?

I answered him laughing: So that means that this place where we are standing now, will be invaded by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, whose blue we are now looking at. This means that it will no longer be a footstool for humans after that, but for fish.

It was an amusing conversation, but from then on I got the idea for this cover. And I comically imagined this vast ocean attacking our coasts.

Here, the letters swimming in the waters of the ocean are the letters of the city of Agadir, and the wolf is one of the rare wild animals that still inhabit the mountains overlooking the sea in that region.

4- MERY PHD

The idea for this book cover was inspired by the graduation of one of my old friends; After years of painstaking study and research, and hours of dissertation discussion, she finally stood as the crowning star of the ceremony.

At the time, I felt a strong urge to design something that embodied that; And because I was also busy in those days creating a portofolio for book designs, I found in that an additional motivation for what I would design: a book cover that expresses the occasion, such as a memoir book that talks about the solemn graduation day.

But what is the best idea for a cover of this kind? I was determined to be different and not repeat stereotypes; Especially in the face of the problem of relying on one of the graduation photos due to the medium quality of the photos taken by the phone.

n fact, everything I needed was already available in the image of the friend standing tall with her achievement at that party, so I only needed to look and extract the idea. And so was..

  The idea was high heels!

Because my friend was always the serious type; In all my memories of her, I never remember her wearing high heels, except when she was being crowned with something. As she did previously when she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, then after that when she graduated from a master’s degree, and then finally when she graduated with a Ph.D.

So high heels were a symbol of upgrading, and the day of the doctorate was the most important upgrading station in the scientific and social life of this friend.

The red and black color she adopted was inspired by the graduation outfit she wore during the ceremony. It was all a mixture of red and black.

5- IMZARAYN

The title of this book is written in one of the oldest alphabets in the world at all, which is the ancient amazigh alphabet known as the Tifinagh letters. Under the main heading we find a repetition in Latin letters of the same title: imzarayn; and its meaning is: paradoxes.

This book belongs to a friend of mine, who is considered one of the new young generation in Morocco that is trying to revive the language of the ancestors through writing. She then asked me to design a cover for this book, as an inspiring reminder for her, to help her finish the work. She asked me to take a picture of her face and make it dark; The fact that the time in most chapters of the novel was a night time.

And in my experience, I considered working with (portraits) to create a suitable painting a problematic matter; In addition to the quality of the images, which are not good in most of the images taken with the phone; There is an additional problem, which is evident in the fact that the image is not originally sufficiently proportional to the subject. And so, after a series of inappropriate photos, which made me almost dismiss the idea of working in person, something happened that can only be described as a rare coincidence.

Although my friend's face was distinguished from those charismatic faces that draw attention, I found, while distracted by another work, a picture very similar to hers; I found it on one of the freely licensed image sources on the Internet. And it was - to our surprise - an image that was difficult to distinguish from the image of the friend herself. Finally, it provided us with what was lacking to complete the work with the desired descriptions.

This artwork was one of the most beloved works that I have worked on since I started in the field.

6- YAN UDLISN ISSIDIN IMAN

And how do you imagine a book about literary criticism?

This is a question I asked myself. And I chose to be very simple. I thought that if it was a book about literary criticism, it would be a book about a book or books; So I imagined a book within a book. And since I see criticism as a strict and serious field (!), I decided to make the colors black and white.

This is one of my favorite covers of the book though some of my friends don't share my opinion because of the silly title as they think lol.

But they are right honestly; I personally didn't think of it more than few seconds before adopting it as a title of the book. I was in a hurry; but, the choice of title has always been the work of the author, not the designer, so no problem, I suppose.

I am not eager to explain the meaning of the title. it is really a ridiculous title , very ridiculous !..

7- AVIRUS AWRAV

Avirus Awraɣ is the title of the book in Amazigh, and its meaning is: the yellow virus.

A mysterious, sentient creature peering through the darkness into...

In the first version I made, the artwork had no hands.

8- JARIMA

Jarima is an Arabic word meaning crime.

Here, the cover of the book, through its design, suggests mystery; It also suggests that the main evidence for the investigation of the crime mystery is a knife, and perhaps this knife was found at the crime scene without additional evidence.

The color chosen here is suitable for a story of this kind in a country like Morocco, as it is one of the usual terracotta colors in the country.

Here, the design idea was inspired by one of George Orwell's world-famous novels, 1984.

9- ⴰⵔ ⵉⵎⴰⵍ (to the future)

The title of this book, as indicated by the word  (ⴰⵔ ⵉⵎⴰⵍ) is: (to the future) .

There is no specific inspiration behind this book cover design.Maybe I was looking at a piece of dice. Or maybe I was just reading a regular thing on Wikipedia about probability theories!

In any case, this work has become one of the most satisfying personal jobs for me. At least I did not miss the opportunity to use the old Tifinagh letters, which I love so.
