Think Outside The Bag NY (App Concept)

Scope

Think Outside the Bag NY is an independent organization aimed to have residence of NY reduce their negative impact on the environment. This mobile app is designed to unify small towns in New York by coming together to initiate global change. This app can track one’s weekly carbon footprint and will help reduce it. Users will be able to locally communicate within a town to initiate change.

Objective

TOTOBNY originally focused on residence of New York to reduce their individual carbon footprint. By shifting the focus on smaller towns in New York, the impact will be greater due to the strong community values that exist in small towns.

Research

I researched and studied similar campaigns, competitors, and current UX design trends. Some research I have done include:

Enviroment New York

This website has intentions of having New York help the environment by sending a message to the governor. They design for NY by incorporating the state colors blue and yellow. There is no mobile presence.

Bring It NYC

This is a great way to connect New York City, but limits NY residence outside the city. The name is short and memorable. The font is very unique, has a hand-written look, which makes the design, message, and impact feel personal.

iRecycle (App)

This app finds the nearest place to recycle items locally. It breaks down materials into categories such as electronics, glass, metal, paint, etc.

Commute Greener (App)

This app efficiently finds a ride to your local commute by efficiently sharing the ride to reduce emissions. Badges are available to achieve by using the app which gives off a sense of competitiveness. The overall design is very bland and not interactive.
