Defqon x Neverland 2022

In June 2022, the Neverland crew was brought onto the Defqon 1 festival terrain to work on-site; contributing to the design of their publication Primal Energy. For this task, we got to collaborate with a dedicated group of designers and artists from both Qdance and defqon1 - who worked day and night throughout the four-day festival, all while heavy Hardstyle basses were pumping in the background.Our crew also moved through the terrain in order to capture detail-rich texture close-ups from around the site. Think footprints in the mud, the outer edges of decorative graffiti, or the rest of last night’s confetti soaked in today’s morning dew. These were used as background and design elements throughout the magazine, and were a great opportunity to implement authentic details that literally encapsulate the festival itself. We believe that rather than relying on stock images and textures, incorporating these genuine impressions of the event in the visuals, makes the publication truly ownable and part of the Defqon.1 DNA and identity.

Defqon.1 is an annual music festival held in The Netherlands since 2003, produced by Qdance . It focusses on Hardstyle and related electronic music genres, which are all generally characterised by having high bpm’s. With over 14 stages and with more than 65k fans from all around the world attending, it’s a massive gathering and a truly unique experience.
