Collaboration feature for Aerobotics

I designed this collaboration feature which allows customers to share screens and start discussions within our complex reporting interface, without leaving the product experience.

At Aerobotics we collect high resolution aerial imagery of farms through a drone flight and provide customers with several layers of performance data on their trees and plants. A typical user journey requires the customer to delve into the insights, viewing and comparing multiple layers of data before isolating a potential issue on their farm.

We discovered that customers often wanted to be able to discuss their observations with team members, in order to validate problems and possible courses of action. We needed to build a feature that would allow them to do this remotely and without relying on external collaboration tools.

The share tool captures a snapshot of the user's screen including all of its current parameters, so that it can be sent to and viewed by another user in exactly the same state. The initiating user can select team members and add comments on the shared screen. The recipient receives the link and comment in an email notification, and in the discussions panel in the web app. All collaborators can continue the discussion in a thread, with the original shared screen in view.

By observing the use of the collaboration tool we also created a new channel of learning how our customers were using the product, and what problems they were able to surface in the data we provide. Our CRM team also successfully used the feature to drive deeper engagement with customers who had not yet derived the most value from the product.
