A symbolizm of Ukrainian wreath

Ukrainian wreath is full of symbolic elements since ancient times. In my first illustration of the “Daughter of Ukraine” collection I wanted to present to you these symbols of oberih (amulet), which for centuries had been protecting Ukrainian women. Poppy is a symbol of beauty, youth and dreams. Sunflower and marigold flower symbolize fidelity and devotion. Immortelle symbolises good health, while hollyhock is a symbol of faith. Periwinkle symbolises life and the immortality of human soul. Cherry flower - motherly love and care. Lilly of the valley is for purity and modesty. Forget-me-not is a very small flower but very important for Ukrainian wreath - it symbolises love and those people who are not with us anymore but in our hearts. Oak leaves is for strength. Also I added ears of wheat to show the fruitfulness of our land.

For now, Ukrainian oberih is made of soldiers, volunteers and regular people, whose spirit is made of steel.
