Random Chooser app

Random Chooser app - redesign challenge

App created as a simple and fast application for randomly choosing between different options you enter. It was created in 2016 with the latest update being in 2019. Its main function is creating custom lists and choosing a list item at random. There is also the possibility of saving and loading lists.
Most of the reviews in the Google Play store are positive and are emphasizing the simplicity of the app. However, the developer of the app noticed that the Random Chooser app is a bit outdated and could use a new update complete with a redesign as well as a couple of new functionalities without removing the simplicity and the ease of use that a lot of users pointed out.

Challenge

Discover pain points of the current app, propose solutions to improve user experience and design extended features of the app.

Goal statement

Improve the overall experience by redesigning the app, making the design more accessible and designing a more user-friendly interface.

Design process

For the initial user research, I conducted a one-on-one interview with one of the developers of the app and I analyzed current reviews on Google Play to understand the current problems and new possibilities. During the synthesis phase, I used affinity mapping to analyze pain points and determine priorities for the redesign process. Then I created Lo-Fi sketches and Hi-Fi prototypes. In the end, I was able to deliver the finished project to the developer and validate the design and draw the conclusion about this project and the new learnings that came from it.
