Dog Walking App - Waggy

Overview

Waggy is a dog walking app to help pet owners find local pet services including but not limited to walking, boarding and training services. Through this app, pet owners can browse the nearest service providers, chat with them and leave comments for them. This project is a part of Dribbble’s Product Design course.

In this project, my role is not only as a UI designer but also as a researcher. I have completed every step of a product design project from user research and wireframe to the final visual design.

Market Research

Based on the market research and user interview, I created one user persona to help me explore the needs of a larger group of users and keep my target audience in mind when I design the app.

Flow Diagram

I created a simple user flow diagram to outline the necessary functionality. It includes two main functions which are User onboarding and Dog walker search.

After establishing the flow diagram, I transferred some critical steps to digital lo-fi wireframes in Figma.

Visual Design

After the logic flow and lo-fi wireframes were ready, the next part was visual design, my favourite part which is also the most challenging part. I divided it into two steps which are choosing the suitable typeface and colour palette and building a component library to keep consistency.

For the colour palette, I want this app can convey a feeling of relaxation and energy, so I chose some bright colours in a simple layout to draw the attention of the target audience.

Feedback and Improvement

After the visual part was finished, I created a prototype and share it with my friends and family members. Based on their feedback, I optimised some pages to make them more customer-centred and user-friendly.

Final Design

Project Summary

During this journey, I experienced every step of designing a successful app. I experimented with the market research, created user flows, built them into lo-fi and hi-fi designs, connected them into a prototype and sent them out for a user test.

Despite the whole process being quite time-consuming, all the learning and practice happened in a short period, it is a very insightful journey. I've learned a lot about product design and the use of Figma.

There is definitely a lot of space to improve on in this case study. I will continue learning the product design and maybe after some time, I could redesign this case study.

I really appreciate my mentor Taya who gave us much helpful advice. Her guidance and support are valuable to me in this course.
