Here's my technique for making rough edges in Photoshop. I don't remember seeing it online, but if you created it, give me a sign & I'll give you credit for it.
1) Set the blend mode to dissolve.
2) Create a new layer below and merge the two back together (flattens the dissolve effect)
3) Apply a small gaussian blur (around 1px)
4) Apply the "unsharp mask" filter (Amount:198%, Radius:1px, Threshold:0 levels)
6) BONUS: Flatten the whole image, convert to CMYK, nudge the channels to get a misprinted effect.
Now you've got fancy rough edges ala Frank Chimero!
I would be interested to know how you guys do it...
