Interactive eBook (UX/UI, Illustration, Writing)

Explory is an interactive children's books series that I have written, created and illustrated. The first book is Toto and the Magic Tree, which I created as part of the series to help teach children about the environment and climate change.

The Product

Explory features interactive, animated elements that play sounds and move around as the user reads. This creates an immersive experience whilst reading. The role of sound within UX is something I carefully considered within this project, helping encourage children to remain entertained and focussed whilst reading.

Tools used: Procreate, Sketch, iPad, Apple Pencil...it's all hand-drawn.

The interactive eBook was created from my research around how technology is changing the way we read, and how children are developing and learning how to read. It combines interactive digital products with education, giving the modern child an immersive education method.

My process

Research - Ideas - Research - UX - Illustration - Animation - UI - Prototype

This project involved months of research, illustration and painting as well as indepth prototype creation. The design process for it was really fun, I was painting and drawing then combining those into a component library to piece together each screen/page of the eBook.

Illustration

Using my iPad and Apple pencil, I painted all the elements of the book. Each individual leaf, tree and flower. Once I'd drawn each element separately, I made them into a design system/component library and built each screen in Figma. This process was really effective, and helped me built each screen with ease.

The Outcome

Read the entire case study on the Explory medium publication
