Cool Hagoita Player
The hagoita is a wooden paddle used in this badminton-like game. It is believed that the game wards off evil spirits as players hit the shuttlecock back and forth. In Japanese, the shuttlecock itself is known as a "hane", but this is a play on words and "hane-ru" can also mean "to ward off". How is the game different from badminton? Well... it's not badminton! Once you hear the sounds of the game and see the decorations of the hagoita, you'll find the beauty of it yourself.
