Civil Rights x Tech

As the USA's largest online racial justice organization, Color of Change is dedicated to helping people respond effectively to the world's injustices. In an effort to move decision-makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people in America and to discuss subjects of multiracial, gender, and religious coalition, Color of Change hosts seasonal events to discuss topics of online and offline democracy, economic empowerment, diversity and inclusion in hiring practices.

With a Civil Rights X Tech event around the corner, Color of Change were looking for an event logotype to set the scene for insightful panels on hot-button societal issues represented in front of none other than the US civil rights community and key decision-makers at Facebook. With the important task of designing a logotype for an event as significant as this one, we focused on creating a solution that will communicate the values of democracy, diversity, and inclusion in a modern, elevated way that at the same time complements the rustic and casual mood of the event's venue.

The designed solution focuses on representing that just as atoms merge to build a molecule, so do people merge to form larger groups of people, ones that are aware of the problems that minorities face. As a forming particle of everything in this world, the atom represents every person that is a part of the human population. While representing the marginalized communities, the logotype design communicates that we are all part of the same world, all made from the same substance. This contemporary logo design encourages users to gather in a solution-oriented way, shows a way to build broader perspectives, and is applicable to different events that address these issues.
