ESV Single Column Journaling Bible®, Artist Series »Sanctus«

The ESV Artist Bible is here! It's part of a Artist Series of six Bibles each created by a christian artist. I was so honored and humbled to be chosen as one of these artists.

What it's about the art for my edition »Sanctus«? My love for historic architecture and vintage bookplates was a strong influence on this design. The work focuses on the four biblical symbols that were present in all temples and in Christ himself: blood, water, bread, and light (John 9:5, 4:10, 6:35; Matt. 26:28). The gothic style of the artwork pays tribute to the beauty and heritage of Christian-inspired art and architecture throughout church history. These main elements are supported by fragments of the ancient prayer and hymn »Sanctus«, which believers have used for centuries for worship and liturgy and is based on Isaiah 6:3. Ultimately, the artwork is intended to create an awe-inspiring sense of Scripture and give a tiny visual glimpse of God’s majesty and holiness.
