Vote. Love.

Would’ve wanted to have developed this concept further but with work piling on and on I can’t delay anymore the importance of the message: Vote. Love.

It’s a concept I sketched a few weeks back but it never quite escaped my mind—with all the urgency and fire of the current moment.

I originally wanted to have an ambigrammatic expression of the word “vote” (to be accompanied by the caption in the lines of “No matter how you spin it, vote”) but just looking at the letterforms in the drafts I can’t help but see “love” in it. And what a fitting message it is!

Also wanted to fully explore the capabilities of Figma, so I imported all of my sketches, cropped, and image traced this in app. I have to say that it's very freeing to be able to quickly add new plugins and work in vector format! Not to mention that this could be quickly exported to SVG for web work. 😉

Hopefully I’d be able to continue working on this noodle: as of the moment it’s not quite a polished script, and it’s not really a true two-word ambigram. And this is my first attempt at this blackletter style, so calligraphy experts, please, please, please do enlighten me.

...

We cannot let our fears take command of our lives and sow hatred in our hearts and minds. Now is the time to grow and cultivate a predisposition to love, and to seeing each and every one as a human—with their own wants, needs, desires, and fears.

With all the uncertainty we have around us, with health, in politics, with family and friends, and in this climate crisis we are slowly not being able to push against, let us have to courage to face our own fears, and to face others’ fears as well.

Once again, Vote. Love. Vote love.
