Torso of Banović Strahinja

Torso of Banović Strahinja

1 Attachment

On Saturday 21st September, I attended a Sketchout class called Fundamentals of Drawing at the V&A Museum in London.

Aside from sketching User Interfaces, I have not done any artistic drawing for more years than I care to remember. This was my first drawing of the day, concentrating on line.

Attached is a photo of the statue that I was drawing, along with the full view of the drawing.

Description from The V&A:
The Torso of Banović Strahinja was sculpted by Ivan Meštrović in 1908. Banović Strahinja was a mythical Serbian hero renowned for his beauty. Meštrović trained in Vienna then moved to Paris where he met Rodin, whose influence can be seen in this naturalistic but fragmented figure. The sculpture was donated by the Serbian Government following an exhibition of Meštrović's work at the V&A in 1915.
