Ehlers Danlos Awareness Poster

As someone who was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome at 15, and officially given a firm diagnosis of Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome this past year, promoting and publicizing this issue is incredibly important to me. The official mascot of the Ehlers danlos society is the Zebra, as such, I decided to illustrate a zebra, and then mirror it to have it looking back at itself. In medical school, doctors are taught "when you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras" meaning that doctors are told to look for the obvious signs of an issue before looking for the less well known signs. It often takes over ten years for someone with Ehlers Danlos to be given a diagnosis. Although Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is considered to be a 'rare' disease, it is thought to be under and mis-diagnosed.

May is Ehlers Danlos Awareness Month so I decided to create this poster to commemorate that fact. If you'd like to learn more about Ehlers Danlos, what it is, and how it affects the body you can visit www.ehlers-danlos.com
